We’ll meet again…

Written By on 30th January, 2014

After four years, Bullpen Banter will no longer extensively cover minor league baseball.

Our site, our second home, developed into much more than four prospect fanatics’ roundtable discussions. As the masthead grew, our content evolved into a small amateur scouting department and our staff into a tight knit community. At a time, a larger vision began to come into focus. Media credentials, videos, scouting contacts…

Then Bullpen Banter stalled. The cause was simple — individual success. Professional teams, bigger blogs and our non-baseball lives depleted our roster and then our content.

Emotions are mixed. We’re sad because managing Bullpen Banter was a big part of our lives. The site gave so much to so many. However, our excitement for the opportunities our staff and we are embarking on outweighs our sorrow. The void left by BB will not go unfilled.

Bullpen Banter will not go offline. Al, others and I will sporadically ramble about the theories or players that may not fit in at our new homes. Information about where our writers’ content will appear will be made available as it is released.

We thank you, again, for reading. We started Bullpen Banter because we loved prospects, but the site continued for four years because readers loved our perspective. The readers, the tweeters, the commenters and especially our staff made Bullpen Bullpen a special for years.

Thanks for all the fish,

JD & Al

Al & I still hope to finish our offseason prospect coverage – the rest of the top 10s and a final top 100 list. The pace has been excurciatingly slow, and I apologize for the infrequency of new content over the past ~6 months.

We love every reader. The support that you guys have shown has been overwhelming.

Just wanted to thank all the readers that visited the site and the few I’ve met at the games.  It was a fun ride here.  I think we carved out a nice little niche, and we have had a handful of our guys that wanted to get into the game land scouting and operations jobs, and that’s pretty friggin cool.

I don’t think a lot of the readers comprehend how much time Al and JD and the others dedicated to site.  It was a hobby for most of us, but I think we did it right and we treated it like it was a second job, and I think that’s why we had a nice run here.

Not bad for a bunch of guys that met through discussions over at minorleagueball….  Thanks to JD and Al for letting me come aboard some 3 or so years ago. I started with a little blog of my own and BB helped me evolve and get a clearer idea of what I wanna be when I grow up (hopefully that’s before I’m 50 :)  )

Cheers guys. . . and good luck.

Good luck, guys. I always got a lot out of visiting the site. The one time your perspective made no sense to me was when you didn’t give the proper love to Trevor Bauer…

I got on the bandwagon a little late, only starting to read you guys a year or so ago, but I’ve always enjoyed what you guys do here. Your video library is the stuff of legend, passed down from generation to generation of prospect hounds.

Thanks for all the prospecty goodness. I look forward to the completion of the Top 10′s and final Top 100.

Super bummed out to hear this. I came to this site often to see if there was any new content and last year’s Top 100 list was must-read in my opinion. Like Melotticus, I just started reading the site a little over a year ago, but I’m definitely sad to see you go!

Sad to hear this…BB was on the short-list for excellent minor league prospect coverage. Well done guys and good luck in your future endeavors.
